Review for Breaking a Legend by Sarah Robinson - 4 bees knees

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

This was pretty good, and I was almost going to go with 5 stars, but I ended up doing the 4 stars mainly because some of Rory's actions weren't quite realistic. Rory changes the way he is a bit too quickly, which I found a bit odd. SPOILER AHEAD!!!! First off, Rory says he doesn't want a relationship, and just wants to sleep around, which there is a bit of, but then within very little time he is ready to be in a committed relationship. Second, he has a problem with alcohol and prescription meds, but he basically decides one day that he's going to stop doing those things, and really doesn't have much of an issue with quitting, which too me was unrealistic. SPOILER DONE!!! I did really like Rory though, and I loved his family dynamic, and I am really looking forward to the next books with his brothers and Casey; his cousin who is more like a sister. Clare and Rory had great chemistry, and they were really sweet with each other, and I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship, and they definitely had some steamy scenes. Oh, but this was weird SPOILER AHEAD!!!! you don't ask if someone is on birth control after you've already had unprotected sex with them SPOILER DONE!!!! I mean it kind of defeats the purpose! I liked that Rory is protective, and he does it in a way that isn't overbearing, which made Rory come across as adorable. I did think some of Clare's choices could have been better, but I like that she was strong and she had a bit of sass. I like books that take place in the MMA world, so that aspect was cool to me, and I liked the animal shelter parts. I will definitely check out the next books in the series!

  1. The cover on this book looks amazing!! Whew *fans self*
