Review for Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti - 5 out of 5 rating!

With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…

Danger has never looked quite so delicious…

Everything I've read by Rebecca Zanetti I have loved! And Mercury Striking was another great book! I read the short story, Scorpius Rising, in the book On the Hunt, and I really loved it, so I was excited to see the series continue in Mercury Rising, and after reading Mercury Rising, I am really looking for to the next book(s) in the series!

In Mercury Rising, there is a dangerous bacteria that has killed off most of humanity. Lynn is a scientist who worked with the bacteria, and she also became sick from the bacteria, but she survived because of an experimental element that happened to make her heart glow blue. Also, Lynn is blamed by a lot of people for the bacteria being released and killing most everybody. Lynn is on the search for a cure to the deadly bacteria, but with everybody after her, it is proving difficult, so she is in search of protection, and she believes Jax Mercury may be the man for the job. Jax Mercury is in charge of a compound of survivors in Los Angeles, and when he was younger he was part of a dangerous LA gang called Twenty, but Jax ended up joining the military to get away from the gang life. Jax wants to find a cure, so when Lynn finds him, he doesn't quite trust her, but is willing to take a risk and help Lynn look for a cure. Jax is a bad-ass, tough guy, who is some what closed off emotionally, and he puts his life on the line for the people in the compound. Lynn is strong and very smart, but she is also somewhat closed off because she has to deal with many people trying to kill her, and there are some people who are scared of her because there is a rumor that she is carrying a deadlier strain of the bacteria, so people don't want to be around her. Jax and Lynn don't necessarily get off to the best start, but as the story progresses they begin to grow closer.

There is a lot of action scenes in this book, and I happened to really enjoy the scenes; it was interesting to see how Lynn was going to survive with all the people out to get her. I thought all the action was exciting! I loved the sort of dystopian aspect; I thought it was cool they have scavenging missions, and I enjoyed the whole overall story of trying to cure the bacteria. The book doesn't end with all the answers, the bigger story of finding the cure for the deadly bacteria is going to be a continuing story in the next book.

Jax and Lynn together was really great, and I loved how their relationship evolved through out the book. They definitely have some kinky sex scenes, and I thought they were well written, and I was glad the book wasn't overflowing with sex scenes; there is a nice balance between the romance and the story in Mercury Striking. Jax and Lynn were adorable together, and have some really sweet moments.

I really loved the whole book! I'm hoping in the next book in the series, we get to see some of Nora and Deacan from the short story in the book, On the Hunt! They are mentioned briefly in this book, but I want more! I'm definitely excited for the next book with Vivienne and Raze; lots of mystery there! Another excellent book by Rebecca Zanetti!
