A Near Future Retelling of Beauty and the Beast

Alainn’s father is not a bad man. He’s a genius and an inventor. When he’s hired to create the robot Rose, Alainn knows taking the money is a mistake.

Rose acts like a human. She looks exactly like Alainn. But, something in her comes out wrong.

To save her father from a five year prison sentence, Alainn takes Rose’s place. She says goodbye to the sun and goes to live in a tower no human is allowed to enter. She becomes the prisoner of a man no human is allowed to see.

Believing that a life of servitude lies ahead, Alainn finds a very different fate awaits her in the company of the strange, scarred recluse.

Totally loved this! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairytales, so I love when there are retellings! I love that Artificial Intelligence, and other robotic type things were included in this story; that was a unique twist on the story. Alainn switches places with a very human like robot named Rose that looks just like Alainn, so her father won't be sent to prison for not delivering the robot to a rich, secluded man named Lorrcan. I enjoyed Alainn and Lorrcan's relationship, it's so sweet! It's interesting to see how Alainn and Lorrcan cope with Alainn supposedly being a robot. There's a bit of mystery to this story too because there's some nefarious deeds happening behind the scenes that cause problems for Alainn and Lorrcan. The plot is interesting and once I started this book, I didn't put it down! Stayed up way too late to finish it! The only thing that was a little weird to me in this book was the storyline of Alainn's friend, it felt like the book would've been just fine without that storyline, but it didn't bother me too much. Ensnared is a beautiful and entertaining story, and I look forward to reading more by Rita Stradling!
